Just Whisper

Some wise old writer on Madison Avenue once said…

If you want to catch someone's attention, just whisper.

Makes great ad copy, but does it really work?

Take The Whisper Lounge. Located in a far-flung corner of The Grove, the bar restaurant has been open well over a year and has gotten almost no attention at all. This, despite its date-worthy open-air patio and speakeasy charm.

The main courses are quiet indeed — mostly your standard American steakhouse fare. Pump up the volume with the much more inventive appetizers. Three exotic dipping sauces dress up a basket of crispy fries. Or go fresh and light with the Seafood Appetizer Trio including dungeoness crab on a bed of mango and avocado. The presentation is clean and spare and the flavors something to shout about.

The bar is known for its classic cocktails. But it might be worth raising your voice for a more creative concoction. Perhaps the pomegranite mojito (Seeds not included). You'll pay $9 or $10 per drink — unless you land during happy hour 5:00 - 7:00pm Mon-Fri) when beers go for $3 and well drinks and wine for $4.

We don't want to shout too loudly about The Whisper — one reason it's so likeable is that it's a quiet hideaway, removed from the shopping throngs.

The Whisper Lounge is located at The Grove.
