Get Lucky
Hey, beer lover.
You know the joy of finding a rare beer on tap. You've caught a glimpse of the flashy Yard House — a newish chain in Pasadena's Paseo Colorado mall — and you've been tempted. After all, the place boasts the "world's largest selection of draft beer."
Our advice? Go a few yards more.
A much more impressive tap selection can be found at Lucky Baldwin's Pub a few blocks away, nestled along an Old Town alley.
Okay, so this small traditional English pub's 62-beer offering may pale next to the Yard House's 131. But what makes Lucky Baldwin's a better bet (besides fewer tourists) is that most of their beers are Belgian. And if Belgian to you means a big, cork-topped bottle of Chimay from Trader Joe's, get ready for a whole new world of brew.
For a beer bargain, come Sunday and partake in the "Winter Beers Glass Special." Pay the usual seven bucks for a top draft, keep the glass and get refills for $4.
Sure, you might find a bigger bargain elsewhere. But does it include the chance to taste a Gouden Carolus Cuvée of the Emperor? A St. Feuillien? Or the crazy EKU 28 (at a whopping 14% alcohol!)?
This does. And it definitely beats drinking at the mall.
