Run Away to the Circus
The circus is coming to town.
But where's the love?
The arrival of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus comes with little fanfare. But for the devoted, from July 20 - 24th, the Staples Center will be home to Bello the clown, a tiger tamer, a pair of human cannonballs and a lot of the same vibe you may have found under the big top as a kid.
These days unless you have kids, you may not be able to withstand entertainment of the three-ring variety for the duration of an entire show. But there is a way to get a little circus flavor for free.
On your way into work tomorrow, make a detour through downtown. Local Lofties have been alerted about street closures due to a "Circus Parade." It's a tradition that brings the animals from the train on which they arrive to the Staples Center where they perform. Bystanders can expect to catch a glimpse of "animals, clowns and circus personnel."
Here's the route: They'll start at the train yards on 25th and Alameda. Head north to Washington Blvd. West on Washington to Maple. North on Maple to 11th Street. West on 11th toward the Staples Center.
Be sure to bring a sack of quarters since the meters will be working at that hour. A small price to pay for the chance to see if it's still the Greatest Show on Earth.
