Hard Drive
If you're looking to buy a new computer, you probably want what everyone wants.
Speed.
And what says speed more than a Corvette? Or a '69 Camaro Z-28? Or a classic Trans Am?
Compucar is thinking outside the box. The desktop computer maker has revved up your standard PC by morphing the body from boring box-shape into auto-fabulous.
Choose from ten car models both new and classic. Or a truck if you prefer — they offer the Hummer H2 SUT and the Cadillac Escalade EXT. Next, pimp your ride with your choice of body color — also internal lighting and wiring colors.
Just like the object of desire in your garage, the pleasure of ownership for these babies comes at a price. An Intel Pentium 4 Compucar with a 2.8GHZ processor, a 40GB hard drive and 512MB RAM will set you back $1,699. That's several hundred dollars more than a comparable desktop from, say, Dell.
And some of the models translate better than others. The Corvette is a slick interpretation of an American classic, where the elegant styling of a real Lexus LS430 is lost on the dowdier Compucar version.
You've got to wonder why it took a computer maker two decades to turn an office eye-sore into eye candy. And now that it's been done, how 'bout a keyboard shaped like Carolyn Murphy?
