Improve Your Outlook

L.A. is all about the million dollar views. Literally. Have you peeked at the prices on some of those hill-top homes lately?

Don't let the bubble be a barrier between you and a city view that's off the hinges. In fact you already own a piece of the action. Several lookout spots on Mulholland Drive are property of the people.

Two of the best can be accessed from Cahuenga Boulevard near the Hollywood Bowl. Take the Mulholland Drive turnoff and head west.

Overlook number one will be on your left. Squeeze into the parking lot and climb the steps to a man-made lookout point built out like a big turret. With the Hollywood Bowl visible way down below, this spot gives new meaning to "nosebleed seats."

Farther down the road you'll encounter overlook number two on your right (If you hit Laurel Canyon, you've gone too far). Vast, unobstructed views reveal a Valley spread out like a big frying pan. No wonder it's so hot in the 'Bank.

Add some twinkling lights and you've got the perfect backdrop for a marathon make-out session, right? Not so fast. The state has put a quash on your kisser by closing these spots up after sundown.
