Let It Slide
You were such a beaaaauuutiful baby.
So beautiful, we couldn't help but shoot a gazillion slides of you.
But whatever happened to that old box of slides anyway?
Well, if they ever went up for sale, chances are they have found their way into the collection of Charles Phoenix.
Phoenix has spent over a decade snapping up slides in all their Kodachrome glory from thrift stores and estate sales, and assembling them into slide shows. You can catch one this Thursday as he presents The Retro Slide Show Tour of Southern California.
But if your mind is still numb from family slide shows of yore don't worry, this isn't your parents' road trip to Barstow. Or then again, maybe it is, but with the addition of Phoenix's wry commentary and poignant observations.
Outfits cut to match the kitchen curtains? A teenager's pride at his newly purchased lavender Renault? No detail is too curious for Phoenix's witty commentary. It's like having a really funny friend take a tour of your family album, but the picture aren't yours.
Except when they are.
Catch Charles Phoenix's Retro Slide Show Tour of Southern California at the Ford Amphitheatre Thursday, June 16 at 8:30pm. General admission is $25 but half price tickets are available through Gold Star Events.
