Take Flight

So you've finally recovered from your Memorial Day hangover only to realize that it's Thursday. And since Thursday is the new Friday (or maybe not so new) it's time to break out a little hair of the dog.

Get your evening started with a tasting at Silver Lake Wine. Flights go for $10 and include three different wines. This week, the featured whites are Rieslings and the reds are from the Piedmonte region of Italy.

Expect a crowd at the small pouring counter. The store is on the small side but tends to draw a festive group ranging from casual sippers to determined connoisseurs.

If you want to make a night of it, walk directly across the street to the popular Gingergrass Vietnamese restaurant. You'll want to wait until you've got your buzz on though because Gingergrass is an alcohol-free zone, at least until they get their liquor license.

Or wait until next Sunday when Silver Lake Wine holds a wine and food tasting for $20 (this Sunday's is preempted by a parking-lot sale). Don't expect a sit-down dinner, as portions are snack-size and you take them standing up. But the food is deelish and specifically picked for the wine.

Silver Lake Wine is located at 2395 Glendale Blvd. Call 323.662.9024 for more information.
