You Don't Know Jack
Who said the customer is always right? Radio station 93.1 FM is telling listeners "we don't take requests" and "we play what we want." Hey, Jack, what's the deal?
Two months since the switch over from Arrow 93, Jack-FM has established itself as L.A.'s installation of the spreading neo-radio movement.
A handful of stations across the country have adopted a format with a massive playlist — one that's "a mile wide and an inch deep." And Jack is no different with over 1200 songs.
Okay — so the music is pretty heavily weighted toward classic rock — an Arrow legacy, no doubt. And there certainly are some non-classic, non-rock losers in the mix. (Falco's Der Kommissar? In English?)
But if you're looking for music in the morning, Jack-FM might be worth the precious real estate among your preset buttons. No morning DJs, no DJs at all — at least for now.
One baffling part of Jack's marketing is the name itself. In parts of Canada this breed of station goes by Bob. In Detroit it's Doug. In the context of L.A. the name Jack seems a bit old fashioned.
Not to mention that there is already another Jack in this town. And he wears a pointy hat and hawks burgers.
Jack-FM can be heard at 93.1 FM. |
