Looks like a chain but the food is fresh
Always a line but it moves fast

Skew'd Perception
Jury duty.
You can put it off only so many times before the courts have their way with you.
But when duty calls there's another reason to answer, at least if your tour of duty brings you downtown.
Skew's Fresh and Fire Grilled is walking distance from the courthouse. Tucked into a mall adjacent to MOCA one level below the street, it's a delightful break from whatever celebrity trial you've been put on.
Steamy skewers hold cuts of chicken, steak, tofu or shrimp, lightly seasoned and grilled to flavorful perfection. The skewer entrees come with two sides (don't miss the cold Thai noodles) and cost around $6.25.
The cuisine? Call it Cal-Asian. When the skewers get old you can also dive into an Aloha or BBQ bowl. There's also what used to be called "wraps" on the menu -- though they've returned in name to what we in So-Cal always knew they were: burritos.
Skew's big drawback is its hours, 11am to 3pm weekdays. So unless you work in the area, you've got jury duty or you're playing hooky to hang out at the museum, you're skewed -- at least for this location. The hours are more reasonable at their second location in Westwood.
Skew's is located at 300 South Grand Avenue inside One California Plaza and also at 920 Broxton Ave in Westwood. |
