The Old Switcheroo

Single Shot Girls. Maybe you love 'em. Maybe you hate 'em. But if you spend a lot of time looking at 'em on the job, you might want to pick up one of these.

The Stealth Switch is a foot-operated device that instantly hides whatever windows are visible on your computer desktop. So you can stay fixated on Freecell, but the minute your boss walks by, the game disappears and you're all about that spreadsheet.

Now, there are many ways to hide a window quickly without this device. You could turn off your monitor (too obvious, and doesn't conceal tell-tale gaming sounds). You could re-boot (pain in the ASCII). In Windows XP you can right-click the task bar and choose "show desktop," which closes all your windows. (But can you move your mouse that fast?)

Part of the appeal of the Stealth Switch lies in its sneaky positioning. The thing goes under your desk and is operated by foot, which prevents the twitchy grab-of-the-mouse effect — a dead giveaway that you're trying to get something off your desktop in a hurry.

A click with your foot: spreadsheet. Two clicks: game on.

The Stealth Switch costs $39 and is available at http://www.stealthswitch.com.
