Make Mom Blush
In case the florists haven't beaten it into your head yet, Mother's Day is Sunday. Once you've done the requisite brunching, gifting, and flowering of the one who selflessly gave you life, get rid of her and let your thoughts return to topics less wholesome.
The Hammer Museum in Westwood is where it's at. Sunday evening it's Erotic Night Mother's Day, featuring steamy readings from a gaggle of L.A. creative people who rarely read publicly: Tami Demaree, Harriet (AKA Harry) Dodge, Rebecca Gray, Evan Holloway, Martin Kersels, Sandeep Mukherjee, Jennifer Pastor, Eddie Ruscha, Steve Salardino, Mindy Shapero, Frances Stark, and Jerry Stahl (you know, the TV writer whose book Permanent Midnight became that Ben Stiller movie).
The museum won't say what these hot shots are going to read except that it will be "material they love and are passionate about." Translated, that means the stuff you used to hide from Mom. And Mom hid from you.
But don't take the main course without hanging in for dessert. We hear one of the readers might be sweetening the deal with a little cake-on-flesh action. We don't know what that's about either, but it's a safe bet this will be a most unusual Mother's Day.
