Rods that Rock
When you live in a car culture, owning a ride that turns heads can put you at the top of the heap. A classic car will do the trick — but only for as long as you can keep it out of the shop.
If you want a car with slammin' old-school looks but a modern engine that really hums, plant your Benjamins on one of these custom recreations of the Lincoln Zephyr. Convertible or coupe — you choose.
What we're talking about here is not an exact replica. Designer Terry Cook chose to make an ideal Zephyr, with body and nose sections from two different years. The result is a car that's mostly 1939, with a little 1941 mixed in around the front. Chop it and drop it and you've got the Z-Series Zephyr.
Under the hood it's back to the future with a brand new 270-horsepower Chevrolet V-8 with a GM four-speed automatic transmission. Other modern conveniences include air conditioning, power disc brakes, power windows, power steering and a CD player. (What no iPod?)
Cook sold the prototype for this car at auction for over a quarter-million dollars. These replicas start at $69,900. Be sure to factor in shipping, since the cars are made in Florida and the nearest dealer happens to be in Nevada.
The Z-Series Zephyr is a collaboration between Deco Rides and Speedster Motorcars. |
