Hit the Books
The Festival of Books is this weekend at UCLA, and if you've seen the guide put out by the L.A. Times this past Sunday, you might be under the impression it's just for kids.
It's not.
Here are some grown-up things to do at the festival:
Seek Appraisal:
Take those old books you've got lying around the house to booth 307, where appraisers will be on hand to assess their value.
Avoid Novel Thinking:
Novels aren't the only type of literature at the festival. See publishers like DogFriendly.com and their range of dog travel guides. Cook's Library offers culinary books from around the world. And Taschen has coffee table books for just about every persuasion.
Meet famous writers:
Ray Bradbury, Mary Higgins Clark, P.J. O'Rourke will all be in attendance.
Meet famous people (who also happen to be writers).
Madeleine Albright, Jason Alexander, Frank Deford, Carrie Fisher, Arianna Huffington, Kelly Lange, Maria Shriver, Kevin Smith and Jack Welch, to name a few.
And if that's not enough for you, there's also a food court, musical entertainment and a rare opportunity to commune with L.A.'s bibliophiles.
The 2005 Festival of Books will be held Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free, but tickets are required for all indoor panels and speaker sessions. Tickets available through Ticketmaster.
