Get Slammed

Talk is cheap. Or, in the case of the Manhattan Monologue Slam, free.

That's right, you can see ten snappy monologues by ten professional actors and comedians tonight at Ivar and it won't cost you one single American Bison Nickel.

The evening is actually two events in one. The show kicks off with "The Championship Set," which pits ten pre-booked actors against each other in a bid for the title. Also at stake (for them) is a trip to New York for more competition. At stake for you is -- well nothing. So you can relax and watch these talented performers rant, rhyme, improvise, act and generally try to provoke you into thought and feeling. Comedians Andy Dick and Sarah Silverman will judge along with a handful of Hollywood movers and shakers.

Have you been waiting to unleash your own inner poet? Then the second set is all yours. The "30 Second Slam" is audience members on an open mic. Sign up when you arrive and prepare give that audience a half minute of glorious you. No prizes for these performances, but you could be discovered or at least land another gig at an upcoming slam.

Sure, the event got its start in Manhattan, hence the name, but there's no reason to give Manhattan a monologue monopoly.

The Manhattan Monologue Slam takes place tonight at:
Ivar
6356 Hollywood Blvd.
Doors open: 8:30pm
Show: 9:00pm
