Scandalicious
The Hollywood sign? You see it every time you're stuck at a light on Highland. Grahman's Chinese Theatre? Lost it's cool when it became Mann's Chinese. Oscars? So yesterday. L.A.'s most famous landmarks seem so... unremarkable.
The truly great part of L.A. is the city's seamy underbelly. Who cares where the stars live when where they died is much more interesting? Don't we all revel in the scandal? The overdoses. Where celebrity and criminality meet, that's where you want to be.
And you can get your fill on a Dearly Departed Tour. Though you might have to break your oath to never be caught dead on a tour bus, you'll spend three hours exploring the devilish side of the City of Angels.
Stops range from the gruesome (Manson Family murder locations, the Menendez brothers' home), to the simply scandalous (the bathroom where George Michael was arrested). Hugh Grant. River Phoenix. James Dean. All stops.
The bus also stops at film locations. These would seem to fit in with the theme, except that the tour operators inexplicably have thrown in locations from such horror flicks as "Grease," "The Graduate" and "That Thing You Do."
Chilling.
The Dearly Departed Tour runs Thursday through Sunday at 1pm and costs $35. But you can pay half that by buying tickets through Goldstar Events.
