Walk It Off
Run, don't walk to ArtWalk 2005, going on this weekend in West Hollywood. Here are a few reasons why:
1) You've been cooped up all winter in storm after storm, and this is a chance to get outside, walk around, breath fresh air. (L.A. air is ONLY fresh after a tons of rain.)
2) Art rocks! And it's not just for the rich.
You'll get to know the artists people are talking about and be part of the scene.
3) The folks from LACMA are throwing in a reception where you can eat, drink and meet cultured hotties.
4) Even if you hate art, the reception includes a surf photography show. Yar, dude! Did I mention cultured hotties?
But what exactly is an art walk? Here's how it works: you get a map showing the locations of 15 plus galleries within walking distance. You visit them one by one, meeting curators and artists along the way and figuring out which pieces you'll buy when your Monopoly money goes real.
You can drop into the reception any time between 5pm and 10pm to eat, drink and rest your dogs, and catch performances by George Sarah and String Trio or a DJ set by KCRW's Anne Litt.
It might be true that a thing of beauty is a joy forever, but if all you need is some joy this weekend, then ArtWalk 2005 is your best bet.
Tickets to ArtWalk 2005 are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. You can order online at Lacma.org or by calling 323-857-6010.
