Riddle of the Vinx
Are musical genres a thing of the past? All you know is that you used to spend hours at the record store flipping through titles -- and you HAD to know the genre. (You were baffled not to find Justin under "R&B" and only now do you see why he was under "Pop.") These days your music is digital and you are all about search by Artist. Search by Album. Do we really need more categories than that?
To see an artist who defies categorization, follow the drumbeats to Genghis Cohen on Sunset tonight. Pretty soon you'll forget searching and scroll right down to V, for Vinx.
Working solo, Vinx uses only his voice and a drum to convey a rich, powerful sound unlike anything currently on the L.A. airwaves.
With their heavy African influence and reliance on percussive instruments, Vinx's recorded songs often sound like missing tracks from The Lion King. But in concert, this instrumental sparseness is a refreshing contrast to your typical guitar band. An Alternative alternative, if you will. In this context Vinx lives up to his tag line: One man, one drum, one voice. And what a voice it is. Vinx's noisemaker has enough warmth to heat a February night. In Fargo.
Vinx plays tonight at:

(310) 578.5591
