Swallow then Chew

You've wanted this since the first time you watched "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." You saw Gene Wilder take a dainty sip of tea and bite into the cup and you asked yourself why there wasn't more edible tableware. You asked mom to buy some.

Eventually, you stopped seeking out the Wonka-fied teacup because -- well, you were sort of put off by the edible underwear an ex-girlfriend sprang on you. (You still can't eat fruit roll-ups).

Plus that was tea. These days you're more likely to be at a bar than a tea party when you start getting the munchies. Forget the bar peanuts, munch on your shot glass. Believe it. Here are a couple ways you can have your shot and eat it too:

Gummi Shot glasses will make you feel like a kid in a candy store. Only a jiggle away from your standard Jell-O shot, it's surprising how stable these gelatinous vessels are. They actually hold a drink -- that is, until you nosh deep enough into the rim.

Next time a Santa Ana blows some warm weather into the City of Angels, consider cooling off with a frozen ice shot. The basic concept is a shot glass-shaped ice mold. Arctic Ice shots makes a version that comes pre-filled with the flavored mixer of your choice. Naturally you'll want to serve the final product inside the glass mold, or you'll be in for a drippy, icy mess. And holding what is essentially a flavored ice cube is not so easy on the hands.

And though they are out of stock now, we hope we won't have to wait until next Christmas for Urban Outfitters to bring back their peppermint shot glasses. We propose that UO do a deal with Jolly Rancher next. Imagine the pucker a sour apple glass would put on your apple martini.
